CHENNAI / April , 2018 –The Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO), a not for profit institution with the goal to boost healthcare quality by promoting collaboration between hospitals and labs accredited with NABH, NABL and JCI, organised its fourth international conference, CAHOCON 2018, today at Chennai. The two-day conference from 7th – 8th of April, 2018, was inaugurated by Prof. K. Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). Dr Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr. Vijay Agarwal, President, Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO) and Governing committee members of CAHO were present on the occasion. The Conference is accredited with 6 CME credit points in Category 1 by the Tamilnadu Medical Council.
More than 600 national and international delegates, including healthcare leaders and policy makers attend this two-day conclave and deliberate on this year’s chosen theme of “Timely Intervention is the Key to Quality” through back-to-back sessions and workshops on both the days.
This conference provides the important source of learning about the challenges faced in improving quality healthcare. It aimed to integrate knowledge and identify a range of tactics that may be used to respond to these challenges
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. K. Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) said, “I congratulate CAHO for its concrete and progressive efforts in order to bring in the best practices and create benchmarks to raise the bar of healthcare quality. The event includes a scientific exhibition and an awards presentation ceremony. Research presentations, posters, panel discussions and pre-event workshops and master-classes are some of the other highlights. Interesting projects implemented in various Chennai hospitals on energy efficiency, 5S implementation, lab-on-chip, etc. are showcased. Key sessions deliberated upon topics like, Is healthcare sustainable in the present context, Key learnings from other industries, Is marketing a hospital ethical, Medical education, Handling medical negligence, Equity and quality in healthcare, Importance of timely intervention, and the Costing of procedures.
Prominent speakers include, Dr. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals; Dr. Dinesh Arora, Director, Ayushman Bharat; Mr. Alok Saraogi, Chief Innovation Officer, Ashok Leyland; Dr. GSK Velu, Founder & Chairman, Neuberg Diagnostics; Dr. Murali Srinivas, Chief – Medical Services, Manipal; Dr. Antony Basile, Medical Director, Star Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr. JV Peter, Director, CMC, Vellore and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Vyas, Principal Secretary – Health Services, Govt. of Maharashtra.
The First day sessions engaged with some of the prominent speakers, including, Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Director, Apollo Hospitals, who spoke on “Will healthcare sustain its nobility and ethos?” followed by Dr. Dinesh Arora, Director, Ayushman Bharat, discussed about the impact on “Modicare on Indian healthcare”. Pre Lunch sessions focused on “Learning from Diagnostics” with Dr Vandana Jain, Director, NABL and Dr. Anil Relia, CEO, NABL who spoke on “Accreditation of Laboratories : Present & Future”, followed by Dr. GSK Velu, Founder & Chairman, Neuberg Diagnostics gave his speech on “Next generation diagnostics”. Also, Dr. Murali Srinivas, Chief-Medical Services, Manipal and Dr. Antony Basile, Medical Director, Star Hospital, Hyderabad shared their thoughts in “Mann Ki Baat” session with their appealing facts and information.
Post Lunch session witnessed a storming debate over Pros and Cons on “Marketing a Hospital – Is it Ethical ?” with Dr Harish Pillai, CEO, Aster Medcity, Dr. S. Manivannan, JMD, Kauvery Hospital, Dr. Sanjeev Singh, MS, AIMS, Kochi and Dr Pawan Kapoor, Ex-DGMS as participants. The debate is chaired by Mr. J Adel, Head Marketing, Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai.
The Second day sessions starts with Platform presentations, followed by session on “International Accreditation” with presentation by Dr. Clive Fernandes, Medical Director, Wockhardt Group of Hospitals on the topic, “International accreditation bodies: Untold story”, followed by a panel discussion on “Handling Medical Negligence”. Post Lunch activities include sessions on Education: Building Blocks” and Laboratory sessions.
Valedictory ceremony will witness Awards presentation to recognize excellence in various categories. Lifetime Achiever Award and ‘Young Quality Achiever Award’ were to be presented to honour substantial work in the field of healthcare quality.
The Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO) is a not-for-profit society to promote collaboration among accredited hospitals and laboratories to initiate efforts to improve healthcare quality and to work closely with NABH and NABL. With a growing number of healthcare organizations achieving NABH, NABL and JCI accreditation, this common platform will facilitate communication amongst the accredited HCOs, share best practices, and provide benchmarking, while promoting and continuously improving the quality and safety of healthcare services provided by the HCOs across India, in collaboration with all stakeholders.
