SRM’s Thamizh Perayam honors Tamil scholars @ Kattankulathur, September 25:.
The seventh edition of Thamizh Academy Awards 2018 was held on Wednesday at SRM Institute of
Science and Technology with a call by noted Tamil lyricist Padmashri. Vairamuthu to students not to
tolerate imposition of Hindi.
He told students to promote Tamil as much as possible, he said, “Only Tamil will unite and help you
know your origin. Do not allow Hindi to be enforced on you. You only need know your mother tongue,
English and have education to succeed in this world.”
Amidst heavy claps and loud cheers, Padmashri. Vairamuthu called students as the future hope of Tamil.
He addressed Dr T R Paarivendhar as the patron of Tamil as he had made the effort to identity Tamil
poets and writers to recognize and motivate them.
“It is important for youngsters to learn from Dr T R Paarivendhar because he has achieved great heights
in a short span to time. Your life is short so within that span of time you should achieve something and
make your life complete.” He also requested the Chancellor Dr T R Paarivendhar to institute an award to
commemorate Kalaignar M Karunanidhi.
Pro Vice Chancellor of SRMIST and president of Thamizh Perayam (Tamil Academy),
Dr R Balasubramanian welcomed the gathering for the 2018 awards event. Students of Chennai
Krishnalaya Natya Palli performed a couple of classical dances during the event.
The chief guest for the event was Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu. Founder-Chancellor of SRMIST and Member
of Parliament, Dr T R Paarivendhar gave the presidential address. Thamizh Perayam has been honoring
Tamil scholars under different categories like Tamil Creative Writers, Translators, Critics, Foreign Tamil
Writers, Life time achievement award for their contribution to Tamil Language, Literature and culture.
In his presidential address, the Chancellor said that this is one of the biggest event that Thamizh
Perayam holds every year. “SRMIST is not just about students, colleges, or hospitals, the institution
holds a special place for promoting Tamil language and this is done through Tamil Perayam. With
Padmashri. Vairamuthu gracing the occasion, I feel that Tamil itself is giving award to the lyricist. In our

Registrar of SRMIST Dr N Sethuraman introduced the winners of the 2018 Thamizh Academy Awards.
The Pudhumaippithan Padaippilakkiya Virudhu was won by Kavippithan, Bharathiyar Kavithai virudhu
was presented to Marabin Maindhan Muthaiah, Valliappa Kuzhanthai ilakkiya virudhu went to
R Karpagam, Pe.Na. Appusamy Ariviyal Thamizh Virudhu was won by Chandirga Sunramaiyan,
Muthutthandavar Thamizhisai Virudhu went to Arimalam S Padmanaban, Parithimar Kalaingnar Thamizh
Aivaringnar Virudhu was got by A. Dhananjeyan, Sudesamithiran Thamizh Idhazh Virudhu was won by
V. Muthaiah, Tholkappiyar Thamizh sanga Virudhu was awarded to Kandhasamy Parthiban,
Arunachalakkavirayar Virudhu was got by Hari Krishnan and Paarivendhar Painthamizh Virudhu of
Rs.3,00,000 was awarded to Prof Dr. E. Sundara Moorthy. The awardee were presented with cash
awards and citation.
Prof Dr. E. Sundara Moorthy in his acceptance speech said, “Thamizh Perayam is promoting and
supporting Tamil. SRMIST has been doing a good job in this and they should continue. Your aim should
be to promote Tamil more and more.”
